We are thrilled to be welcoming Ann back to Kibworth, for a talk all about her new detective series set in Devon.

The Long Call is the captivating first novel in a brand new series from Sunday Times bestseller and creator of Vera and Shetland, Ann Cleeves. In North Devon, where the rivers Taw and Torridge converge and run into the sea, Detective Matthew Venn stands outside the church as his father's funeral takes place. The day Matthew turned his back on the strict evangelical community in which he grew up, he lost his family too.

Now he's back, not just to mourn his father at a distance, but to take charge of his first major case in the Two Rivers region; a complex place not quite as idyllic as tourists suppose. A body has been found on the beach near to Matthew's new home: a man with the tattoo of an albatross on his neck, stabbed to death. Finding the killer is Venn's only focus, and his team's investigation will take him straight back into the community he left behind, and the deadly secrets that lurk there.

'Matthew Venn is a keeper. A stunning debut for Cleeves' latest crimefighter.' - David Baldacci

'Clever, compassionate and atmospheric, with a great cast of new characters to love. I am already a Matthew Venn fan.' - Elly Griffiths

Come and celebrate the launch of Saving Missy, the debut novel from Beth Morrey.

Prickly. Stubborn. Terribly lonely.

Missy Carmichael's life has become small. Grieving for a family she has lost or lost touch with, she's haunted by the echoes of her footsteps in her empty home; the sound of the radio in the dark; the tick-tick-tick of the watching clock.

Spiky and defensive, Missy knows that her loneliness is all her own fault. She deserves no more than this; not after what she's done. But a chance encounter in the park with two very different women opens the door to something new.

Another life beckons for Missy, if only she can be brave enough to grasp the opportunity. But seventy-nine is too late for a second chance. Isn't it?

'Bittersweet, tender, thoughtful and uplifting, MISSY is a story and a character that stays with you. I loved it.” Nina Stibbe

‘A fabulously enjoyable book’ Sarah Haywood
