An Evening with Sarah Ward & Sarah Tarlow

Thursday 31st October at Kibworth Books, 7:30pm (doors 7:00pm)

Come and join us at Kibworth Books for 'Buried secrets: writing archaeology - crime fiction and memoir' an evening with Sarah Ward and Sarah Tarlow.
We will be celebrating the publication of Sarah Ward's latest crime thriller Death Rites. Ward and Tarlow worked closely on Death Rites, with Tarlow being the archaeological consultant for the book. Sarah Tarlow has written extensively on archaeology including in her memoir, The Archeology of Loss. Together they will talk to us all about writing, crime fiction and memoir.

About Death Rites:

Archaeology professor Carla James is reeling following the death of her husband. Desperate for a change of scene, she takes a job at an elite New England college. On her first day, Carla is asked to represent the department at a murder site. She initially believes there is nothing notable about the scattered debris that surrounds the body, but there is more to the case than meets the eye.

This victim is just the latest in a series of unsolved deaths. Nothing obvious links them but Carla is convinced – there is a methodical killer operating in the shadows.

Can she uncover the truth before she becomes the next victim?

About The Archaeology of Loss:

A unflinching memoir exploring the realities of marriage, care-giving, how we die and how we grieve. Told with humour and courage, its raw honesty offers profound consolation in difficult times. After thirteen years together, Sarah Tarlow’s husband Mark began to suffer from an undiagnosed illness, which rapidly left him incapable of caring for himself.

Life – an intense juggling act of a demanding job, young children and looking after a depressed and frustrated partner – became hard. One day, Mark waited for Sarah and their children to leave their home before ending his own life. Although Sarah had devoted her professional life as an archaeologist to the study of death and how we grieve, she found that nothing had prepared her for the reality of illness and the devastation of loss.

The Archaeology of Loss is a fiercely vulnerable, deeply intimate and yet unflinchingly direct memoir which describes a universal experience.
