Book and a Biscuit with Catherine Ward

Kibworth Books, The Children's Room at Barn 11am - 12 noon

Welcome to Book and a Biscuit - our storytime session for children.

Join us here in the Children's Room for an interactive story time, creative activity and - yes, you guessed it - biscuits!

This session, part of our Indie Bookshop Week celebrations, we're joined by the wonderful author Catherine Ward who will be leading us in an beaver themed storytime and reading to us from her book, By The Beaver Pool

Catherine will be happy to sign copies of her book purchased at Kibworth Books.

About Catherine:

Catherine Ward is a children's author who spends her time dreaming up picture book ideas, surrounded by piles and piles of... you guessed it... picture books.

If she isn't researching, reading or writing stories, you may find her down at the library, searching through the book boxes for more treasures to read, just like she used to do as a child.

Passionate about the natural world, and with a geography degree, many of her stories feature wildlife. Her debut, 'The Emerald Forest', helps children to learn about the amazing relationship between a mother orangutan and her young, their shrinking rainforest habitat and the role of conservationists who are working to save these incredible creatures and the place they call home. It is a story of hope for their future. Winning the 2023 Books for Topics KS1 Best Curriculum Support award, it is also a recommended read with both Books for Topics and School Reading List. By the Beaver Pool is a tale of new beginnings, rewilding, connecting with nature and feeling at home. Catherine Ward's gentle story cleverly weaves in beaver facts to teach young readers about these incredible ecosystem engineers, which are being reintroduced in the UK due to their ability to transform their local environment and increase biodiversity.

With previous experience working in primary schools, there is nothing Catherine loves more than spending time with children, sharing her love of books and the natural world.

PREORDER THE BOOK

Need to Know Info:

Please note that there is a £2 ticket charge per child to attend this event which is redeemable against a book purchase. This is to let us know who's joining us on the day and to avoid any disappointment should spaces sell out.

This event will take place in the Children's room at The Barn. We have limited space for buggies and scooters etc outside, weather permitting. Regrettably we do not have dedicated inside space for buggy storage but we will do our best to accommodate everyone.

The storytime will be ideal for children of pre-school age up to age 7 plus any baby / toddler siblings.

Children will be seated on stools, with a limited supply of cushions available. Parents will be requested to stand and watch if possible.

A short creative activity may be offered for children who wish to participate.

Please note we do not have a customer toilet available. We'd recommend encouraging toilet trips beforehand if possible (though we do appreciate children can be unpredictable in this regard!).

Photos may be taken during the event for social media purposes. Please rest assured that backs of heads only will be photographed unless explicit permission has been given by the accompanying adult. If you would prefer for your child not to be in any photos do just let us know and we will be sure to honour this.
