Read to the Beat Summer Reading Challenge

4th July - 30th September 

We're super excited to announce that this year, in the National Year of Reading, we're taking part in the Summer Reading Challenge and we're inviting children and families to join us! 

Delivered by the Reading Agency, in partnership with libraries, bookshops, the Booksellers Association, Universal Music and Explore Learning, the summer reading challenge is a brilliant way to keep children engaged with reading over the summer holidays - what's more, it's entirely FREE! 

This year's theme of 'Read to the Beat' inspires children to explore the connection between stories and songs, discovering how reading and music both ignite imagination and creativity.

Visit the bookshop to collect a sticker booklet and we'll signpost you to the ways in which children can get involved. With local activities, online games, videos and competitions, and even a brilliant music themed book collection for reading inspiration, there's so much to keep children entertained and enjoying reading over the summer.

Need to know info:

• The Summer Reading Challenge is aimed at children aged 4-11.
• Children can collect a sticker booklet from Kibworth Books or any other participating library including Kibworth Community Library.
• At the start of the challenge children can choose six goals to work towards over the summer holidays. This might include reading with a family member, visiting a library / bookshop, attending an event or more. 
• Each time your child completes a challenge they return to the bookshop (or wherever they signed up for the challenge) to collect a sticker. Each sticker also unlocks extra digital rewards!
• On completion, children will be awarded a certificate. 
• Signing up for the challenge at the bookshop does not obligate you to buy any books. We so appreciate support with your book purchases and love to see children attending our events of course, but there's no requirement to do so to join in this challenge. The mission is to provide free access to reading and fun activities over the holidays! 
• The Reading Agency have compiled a brilliant book list for children to explore as inspiration for their reading. You'll find many of these titles in-store or we can order in for you if you'd like to have your own copy. Alternatively you can access these titles via your local library.
