Book Fundraiser - Gifting Books to Children in Hospital
In Autumn 2021 Kirsty, our resident children’s book specialist and fanatic, spent 8 nights at the LRI's Leicester Children's Hospital with her 16-month-old daughter, Edie. She had been admitted with breathing difficulties and, for the next week, was looked after brilliantly by the amazing staff at the hospital. It was an understandably difficult and anxious time but was made all the more bearable, not just by the exceptional care, but by visits from the play specialist team who supplied books to keep Edie entertained whilst she steadily recovered.
Every day, staff on the play specialist team visit children on the wards to provide much needed joy and entertainment through books and toys and they help to support parents too by bringing smiles and encouragement. It’s a fantastic service which makes a world of difference.
Needless to say, baby Edie loved the books and Kirsty was so grateful for the efforts of the team and for the support of all staff at the hospital, that she was determined to find a way to say thank you.
It is with this in mind that we are delighted to announce our Book Fundraiser which seeks to get as many new books as possible into the hands of children on the wards.
The hospital play team always needs more books to supply to children, not least for their Christmas gifting campaign which aims to provide a gift bag to all children on the wards on Christmas Day. Our mission is to raise enough money to ensure that there are enough books for every child in the 130 beds on the ward – and then even more for New Year and beyond.
If you’d like to help us with our campaign, you can donate by visiting the fundraiser page on the website here. We are determined to make all donations
work as hard as possible for the hospital so for every donation made, Kibworth Books will add a further 20% on top. For example, if you donate £10.00, we will gift £12.00 worth of books.
Every donation, big and small, will mean so much to Kirsty, baby Edie and to all the children and parents on the wards at Leicester Children's Hospital.
