Empathy Day is celebrated each June, a day focused on inspiring children and young people to learn more about empathy and its transformational power. It’s organised by Empathy Lab, a not-for-profit organisation which seeks to help raise an empowered, empathetic and socially engaged next generation through the use of high-quality literature.
Like the team at Empathy Lab, we know instinctively that books are positive tools for growth and societal change all year round, a belief which is backed up by the science – immersing ourselves in the world of another character is proven to help us to understand and empathise with other people more effectively.
This book bundle contains a variety of titles which are great for opening up conversations with children and young people around the idea of empathy.
Books within this collection will include a range of fiction, narrative non-fiction, poetry and graphic novels from the official 'Empathy Reads' collection for the current or previous years, plus titles selected by Kirsty, our children's book speecialist for their empathy-building power. Selections have been made with diversity in mind and includes stories which explore timely, powerful themes, incl. food poverty and homelessness; handling and sharing emotions; identity; understanding different cultures and changing society for the better.
