Thursday 18th February, 11-11.45am

Kibworth Books, The Children's Room,

Join us here in the bookshop for a story time with highly acclaimed children's author Catherine Ward.

Catherine will be sharing her latest book with children, followed by some time for little ones to get creative too with a wildlife inspired activity.

Ticket price includes a copy of the book and a small snack. There is no charge for babes in arms.

About the Book:

Dad takes Arden to explore the Scottish island that will soon be their new home, hoping to ease Arden's worries about starting at a new school. They discover lots of exciting wildlife, including a pair of nesting golden eagles with a tiny chick!Over the summer, Arden and Dad watch as the golden eagle chick grows bigger and stronger until, one day, it hops, flaps and makes its first flight from the eyrie. It doesn't make it very far, but Dad says it will keep trying.

When it's time for school to start, will Arden be like the little eagle chick and learn to soar?My Golden Eagle Summer is a heartfelt tale of new beginnings, dealing with change and connecting with nature. Catherine Ward, author of By the Beaver Pool, cleverly weaves golden eagle facts into the story to teach young readers about these majestic birds, while Esther Kent's evocative illustrations bring them to life against the backdrop of a charming Scottish island landscape.

About the Author:

Catherine Ward is a children's author and geographer, with a passion for the natural world and wildlife conservation. She spends her time dreaming up picture book ideas, surrounded by piles and piles of... you guessed it... picture books. Catherine particularly loves writing stories of hope which will inspire children to care for and spend time in the natural world.

With previous experience working in primary schools across key stages 1 and 2, Catherine loves connecting with children about her books through school visits and events.

When she isn’t writing, you might find her searching for more book treasure down at the library, working in her family’s wildlife-friendly garden, enjoying time at a nature reserve, reading an ever-growing pile of nonfiction nature and conservation books or watching documentaries about the natural world. She is ALWAYS on the lookout for the next story to tell…

Need to Know Info:

This event will take place in the Children's room at The Barn. We have limited space for buggies and scooters etc outside, weather permitting. Regrettably we do not have dedicated inside space for buggy storage but we will do our best to accommodate everyone.

The storytime will be ideal for children of pre-school age up to age 7 plus any baby / toddler siblings and home-ed families.

Children will be seated on the floor, with a limited supply of cushions available. We'll provide stools for parents to perch.

A short creative activity may be offered for children who wish to participate.

Please note we do not have a customer toilet available. We'd recommend encouraging toilet trips beforehand if possible (though we do appreciate children can be unpredictable in this regard!).

Photos may be taken during the event for social media purposes. Please rest assured that backs of heads only will be photographed unless explicit permission has been given by the accompanying adult. If you would prefer for your child not to be in any photos do just let us know and we will be sure to honour this.
